“…what a pleasure to read such a well-crafted story…I chose to read this book because it’s advertised as ‘in the classic tradition of Susan Cooper and Lloyd Alexander’. Well I’m going to disagree because I think this book is more in the classic tradition of Philip Pullman, although I’m sure no publisher or author would dare stake that sort of claim for himself.”

John Ward

John Ward was born in Clydebank, raised in Perth, schooled in Dundee and educated in Edinburgh, where he studied philosophy then taught English at the Royal High School. He later moved to Inverness and taught at the College there before becoming a writer.
His previous novels The Secret of the Alchemist, The Stone of Sorrow and City of Desolation were widely translated.
He now lives in Perth once more, with his wife and a
Sunbeam bicycle. He has two daughters and two sons.
