What We’re Looking To Publish

Strident is on the lookout for exciting new work to publish. If you want to submit something for us to consider, please note what we are - and are not - looking for and read the submission guidelines below. They’ll save you time and possibly even the cost of some stamps.

What we’re looking for :

The most important thing for us is to believe we can sell a reasonable quantity of your work. That usually means two things:

Your work is of a good quality
You are prepared to be actively involved in marketing your work

The first goes without saying, but the second is also very important to us. We’ll want to know (ideally in the your initial covering letter) who you think will buy your work, why, and how they can be persuaded to do so.

Submission guidelines

Please send us your idea of what the blurb on the back of the book should be, along with the first 3 chapters.
Email the above to info@stridentpublishing.co.uk
If you’d prefer to send something by post, please enclose reply postage. If you want your manuscript returned, send the same value as it costs you to send it to us. (Money saving tip: If you are happy for us to keep or shred your manuscript in the event that it is not for us, just enclose letter postage or, better still, let us know your contact email address.) Our mailing address is: 22 Strathwhinnan Drive, Hairmyres, East Kilbride, G75 8GT.
We will try to get back to you as quickly as possible, but please appreciate that we do get a lot of enquiries and we like to do them justice. If you haven’t heard from us within 12 weeks, feel free to chase us up by email.
Whilst every effort is made to look after the material you send us, we cannot take any responsibility for the loss of unsolicited submissions.
Please do not send the only copy of your manuscript.

Categories

We’re interested in:

Fiction for any part of the 5-18 age group
but NOT in:

• Adult fiction
• Non-fiction
• Poetry
• Short stories
• Books for under 5s
• Picture Books

We’re particularly interested in fiction that will appeal to so-called reluctant readers.

If in doubt, please ask us before sending your manuscript.

REJECTIONS

We have very limited manpower resources, and publish a small number of titles each year.

We receive a huge number of submissions. Rejection letters are, by necessity, very brief. If you receive a note of rejection, we’re afraid that we’re simply unable to provide an additional appraisal of your work, and why it has been rejected. Nor can we enter into a further dialogue as to why we have made the decision.

A rejection doesn’t mean that your work isn’t any good, it may be that it just isn’t what we’re looking for, or that our schedule for new titles has been decided.
