The first of the Granny Nothing series is reissued by Strident due to popular demand from teachers, librarians and schoolchildren.
It was originally published by Scholastic in 2003, and by BBC audio books in 2004.
Catherine has vast experience of presenting at festivals, book events and writers’ residencies. She has participated in workshops on writing for both children and adults.
She recently assisted feeder primary schools on vibrant projects related to her work, including overseeing graffiti art for her novel Tribes (2004) and the building of a wigwam for Fugitive (1999).
She lives in Greenock.

John Ward

John Ward was born in Clydebank, raised in Perth, schooled in Dundee and educated in Edinburgh, where he studied philosophy then taught English at the Royal High School. He later moved to Inverness and taught at the College there before becoming a writer.
His previous novels The Secret of the Alchemist, The Stone of Sorrow and City of Desolation were widely translated.
He now lives in Perth once more, with his wife and a
Sunbeam bicycle. He has two daughters and two sons.

Hazel Allan

Bree McCready and the Half-Heart Locket is the debut novel from Hazel Allan.
Hazel previously worked with underprivileged children as part of the Government’s Early Intervention Programme, which was established to tackle the problem of low literacy levels. She has also worked with children on the verge of exclusion from secondary school, and has a keen interest in literacy issues.
Hazel is a confident and natural storyteller and uses storytelling as a way to engage children and to stimulate interest in reading and books.
Hazel will be taking part in a publicity tour when Bree McCready and the Half-Heart Locket is published by Strident in 2009.

Gillian Philip

Gillian Philip was born in Glasgow and has been writing all her life, starting with short but frenetic novels about Captain Scarlet and The Man From UNCLE (having massive crushes on both). She has worked as a barmaid, theatre usherette, record store assistant, radio presenter, typesetter, and political assistant to a parliamentary candidate. While living in Barbados, where her steadiest job was as a singer in an Irish bar, she took up writing professionally, and wrote many short stories for women’s magazines.
In 2001 she moved back to Scotland, and now lives in Morayshire with her husband Ian, twins Lucy and Jamie.
